Notes on the nomenclature of the Palaearctic butteflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoformes) established in the book of H.C.Lang “Rhopalocera Europæ descripta et delineata”

SUMMARY. In the present paper the data on butterfly taxa from Middle Asia described in the poorly known book by H.C.Lang “Rhopalocera Europæ descripta et delineate” are given, and necessary nomenclatural clarifications are listed. The following new synonymy is established: Hypermnestra helios maxima Lang, 1884 = H. h. maxima Groum-Grshimailo, 1890, syn.n., Polyommatus amor (Lang, 1884) = P. amor (Staudinger, 1886), syn.n. The lectotypes for Lycaena pretiosa Lang, 1884, L. amor Lang, 1884, Polyommatus sultan (Lang, 1884), Lycaena iris (Lang, 1884) are designated. The new authorship and publication data for Hypermnestra helios maxima Lang, 1884, Plebeius eversmanni (Lang, 1884), Polyommatus amor (Lang, 1884) are established.

The outbreak of Nymphalis xanthomelas ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) оn the European North-East of Russia.

SUMMARY. Yellow-legged Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis xanthomelas ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775)) encountered mainly in the Ural Mountains and in Hypoarctic areas in the North-East of Europe. Only sporadic finds of this species are known in the taiga zone of the Russian plain. However, N. xanthomelas has quickly spread here between 2012 and 2013, the outbreak of this species was observed in the greater part of the lowland taiga. In many areas willow branches were heavily damaged by the caterpillars, and the density of butterflies exceeded 500 individuals / sq. km. The cause of this phenomenon is obviously the series of dry and hot summers in the Eastern Europe in the past three years.
