Yponomeuta tokyonellus Matsumura, 1931 (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) — a new species for the fauna of Russia from the Far East.


SUMMARY. Brief characteristics of Yponomeuta tokyonellus Matsumura, 1931, previously unknown from the fauna of Russia is given.

Systematics of the tribus Parnassiini (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) based on the study of four genes and imago morphology.


SUMMARY. In this paper, the system of the tribus Parnassiini, based on the imago morphology, larval food plants and four nucleotide sequences is presented. The tribus contains 72 species in 6 genera: Driopa, Parnassius, Tadumia, Kreizbergius, Sachaia, Koramius. The latter genus is divided into two subgenera: Koramius s.str. and Kailasius, the rest are treated as having no subgenera. The basic genitalia differences are: presence of subscaphium, two-partial saccus and leather-like sphragis (Sachaia), small stick-shaped brachium and non-flexible uncus (Driopa), stucturized and sclerotized brachium and structural peculiarities of valva (of two parts, with a very long harpe in the basal part) (Tadumia), presence of medial harpe, set of very long hairs at the valva apex and flexible uncus (Koramius), simply generalised uncus, reduced valva and absence of sphragis (Kreizbergius), uncus linked to tegumen via leather-like corrugation, harpe at the apical part of valva, horizontal orientation of valva lobes (Parnassius). The lectotypes of the following taxa are designated: Parnassius delphius infumata Austaut, 1891, P. d. shigarensis O. Bang-Haas, 1935, P. d. abramovi O. Bang-Haas, 1915, P. tianschanicus olympius Staudinger, 1898, P. acdestis priamus Bryk, 1914. The taxa Koramius hunza (Grum-Grshimailo, 1888) and K. chitralica (Verity, 1911), Parnassius mercurius Grum-Grshimailo, 1890 and P. actinobolides (O.Bang-Haas, 1928), Tadumia maharaja (Avinoff, 1916) and T. labeyriei (Weiss et Michel, 1989) are pairly conspecific due to low differences in the genes COI and NADH-dehydrogenase subunit 1 and similar male genitalia. Koramius hunza (Grum-Grshimailo, 1888) and K. chitralica (Verity, 1911) have identical male genitalia and differences in COI at 1.6 %, in NADH-dehydrogenase subunit 1 at 0.5 %. The Parnassius mercurius Grum-Grshimailo, 1890 and P. actinobolides (O.Bang-Haas, 1928) genitalia were not studied, but they are quite similar in their habitus and show very small differences in COI (0.7 %) and NADH-dehydrogenase subunit 1 (0.3 %) genes. The Tadumia maharaja (Avinoff, 1916) and T. labeyriei (Weiss et Michel, 1989) genitalia have not been studied but they have very similar habitus and very close COI differences rate (0.7 %). The specific status for the following taxa was confirmed by the COI and NADH-dehydrogenase subunit 1 genes differences: K. kiritshenkoi (Avinov, 1910), K. infernalis (Elwes, 1886), K. cardinal (Grum-Grshimailo, 1887), K. jacobsoni (Avinoff, 1913), K. staudingeri (A.Bang-Haas, 1882), K. hunza (Grum-Grshimailo, 1888). The difference rate for each of these taxa is over 2 %. The status of K. abramovi (O.Bang-Haas, 1915) as bona species was confirmed using the genitalic features of the type specimen. It differs very well from other species of the superspecies Koramius staudingeri (A.Bang-Haas, 1882): in K. abramovi the valva is very characteristic/diagnostic, consisting of two parts, as we can see in Tadumia: the dorsal surface of its basal part is a widely involute lobe (almost as long as valva), and harpe has apical position (in other members of superspecies K. staudingeri, the basal part of valva is always narrow, involute not more than by a half of the valva length, and harpa starts in the middle part of valva). A new status of Parnassius olympius Staudinger, 1891, stat.n. as bona species based on male genitalia is established: the valva of P. olympius is much wider than in P. tianschanicus Oberthür, 1879, triangular in lateral view (in P. tianschanicus it is narrow, linear-oval, the harpe of P. olympius is much longer than a half of the valva length (in P. tianschanicus, harpe is shorter than a half of the valva length, the harpe of P. olympius with apex straight, in P. tianschanicus, the apex of valva is convexed. The synonymy is established for Koramius staudingeri infumata (Austaut, 1891) = K. staudingeri inaccessibilis (Ju.Ju.Stshetkin), syn.n.

To the systematics and nomenclature of fritillaries of the Euphydryas aurinia (Rottemburg, 1775) - group from Siberia and Central Asia (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae).


SUMMARY. Using the investigation of female genitalia two new subspecies from the E. aurinia (Rottemburg, 1775)-group are described: E. laeta mоina, ssp.n. (type locality: Russia, Krasnoyarsk Prov., Minusinsk, Tatarsky island) and E. laeta calima, ssp.n. (type locality: Kazakhstan, Saur Mts., Temir-su river). Morphologically closely related to Е. laeta mоina, ssp.n. taxa are some populations of E. cf. aurinia (ssp.?) (midlands of North-Eastern Caucasus and Transcaucasus), whose status should be clarified using molecular-genetic methods. Morphologically closely related to E. laeta calima, ssp.n. are the high-montane populations of E. laeta (Сhristoph, 1893) (s. str.) from South Siberia. The lectotype of tenebricosa Bang-Haas, 1927 studied and established, the combination Е. laeta tenebricosa (О.Bang-Haas, 1927), comb.n. is used (North China: Quinhai Province and, probably, adjacent lands). Lectotypes of two other Euphydryas taxa from Central Asia are established as well: asiatica Staudinger, 1881 and alexandrina Staudinger, 1887. It is shown, that Е. asiatica (Staudinger, 1881) is an endemic of Dzhungarsky Alatau Mts. (South-East Kazakhstan), but by the female genitalia it is poorly distinguishable from the polymorphic complex Е. laeta and E. cf. aurinia (Caucasus and Transcaucasus). It is confirmed, that Euphydryas alexandrina (Staudinger, 1887), stat. rest. is a separate species with synonym narina Oberthür, 1909. Two evolution strategies of the genus Euphydryas Scudder, 1871 in Central Asia are described.

A review of the species of Calliteara Butler, 1881 (Lepidopterа: Lymantriidae) in Russia with some taxonomic remarks.


SUMMARY. 8 species of lymantriid moths of the genus Calliteara Butler, 1881, are noted from Russia. Two species, Calliteara solitaria (Staudinger, 1887), stat. rev., comb.n., which formerly treated as a synonym of Calliteara lunulata (Butler, 1877), and Calliteara axutha (Collenette, 1934) are reported here for the Russia for the first time. Dasychira phloeobares Collenette, 1938 is synonymized with Calliteara conjuncta (Wileman, 1911), syn.n. Lectotypes are designated for Dasychira solitaria Staudinger, 1892, Dasychira pudibunda ab. concolor Staudinger, 1871, Dasychira pudica Staudinger,1887 from the Zoologisches Museum für Naturkunde der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Germany. The differences in external and genitalic morphology between Calliteara pudibunda (Linnaeus, 1758) and Calliteara pseudabietis Butler, 1885 are confirmed by molecular analyses (DNA barcoding).

A new species of Lymantria Hübner, [1819] from South-East Kazakhstan with some notes on the systematics of Lymantria dispar (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae).


SUMMARY. From the Ili river valley (35 km SE of Koktal, South-East Kazakhstan) Lymantria storozhenkoae Korb et Pozhogin, sp.n. is described; this new species differs from closely related L. dispar (Linnaeus, 1758) by aedeagus structure, features of antennae and head. The lectotype of L. dispar asiatica Wnukowsky, 1926 is designated, its type locality restricted to “Vernyi town” (now Almaty in Kazakhstan). Basing on the studying of more than 1500 specimens of L. dispar we divide this species into 3 subspecies: nominotypical, asiatica, and japonica Motschulsky, 1860.

Preliminary results of an investigation of the aquatic beetles of the suborder Adephaga (Coleoptera) of the Denezhkin Kamen Nature Reserve.


SUMMARY. The results of the first investigation of the aquatic beetles from suborder Adephaga of the Denezhkin Kamen Nature Reserve are given. A total of 64 species representing three families are listed; some aspects of their ecology and types of their biotopic distribution are described. The species Graptodytes granularis (Linnaeus, 1767) and Rhantus fennicus Huldén, 1982 are recorded from Asia for the first time.

Contributions to the fauna of bees (Hymenoptera: Apoidea) of Moscow Province. 3. Family Apidae. Genus Bombus Latreille, 1802.


SUMMАRY. Article contains generalized information on world and local distribution in Moscow Province (Middle Russia) of 32 species of bumble-bees of the genus Bombus Latreille, 1802 (excluding Psithyrus Lepeletier, 1832). Information on two species — Bombus cryptarum (Fabricius, 1775) and B. magnus Vogt, 1911 is given for Moscow Province for the first time. The localities, the data of catching, the quantity of collected specimens and original information on ecology (trophic and lectic links, flight period, visited habitats) are included. Colour forms of body pilosity and long-term changes in ratios of color forms for variable species in Moscow Province are noted. Color forms of all species are illustrated.

Additions and corrections on the fauna and ecology of Kaluga province Lepidoptera. 5.


SUMMARY. Additions and corrections to the list of Lepidoptera of Kaluga Province are presented based on collections material of 2010-2012 and the analysis of published data. An annotated list of 75 species is presented, with 56 species being recorded as new to the рrovince, including Monochroa conspersella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1854) and Catoptria fulgidella (Hübner, [1813]) — as new to Central Russia, the rest being local, rare or demanding further investigation. Additionally, recent records are reported for several species previously known from material collected more than 30 years ago, оccurence of Dyspessa ulula (Borkhausen, 1790) previously recorded only in the early XXth century is confirmed. Also provided are northernmost or nort-westernmost records in European Russia for Adela fasciellа (Fabricius, 1775), A. prodigellа Zeller, 1853, Parascythris muelleri (Mann, 1871), Eupoecilia cebrana (Hübner, [1813]), Acleris scabrana ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775), Eudemis profundana ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775), Ancylis paludana (Barrett, 1871), Grapholita fissana (Frölich, 1828), Jordanita chloros (Hübner, [1813]), Zygaena centaureae Fischer von Waldheim, 1832, Crombrugghia tristis (Zeller, 1841), Oidaematophorus rogenhoferi (Mann, 1871), Phycitodes albatella (Ragonot, 1887), Salebriopsis albicilla (Herrich-Schäffer, 1849), Scoparia ingratella Lienig et Zeller, 1846, Melanargia russiae (Esper, [1786]), M. galathea (Linnaeus, 1758), Fixsenia spini ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775), Heliomata glarearia ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775), Costaconvexa polygrammata (Borkhausen, 1794) and Ptilodon cucullina ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775).

To casebearer fauna (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) of Chuvash Republic.


SUMMARY. 68 casebearers were recorded from Chuvash Republic, among them 5 species (Suireia alnifoliae (Barasch, 1934), Plegmidia juncicolella (Stainton, 1851), Casignetella hackmani (Toll, 1953), C. paripennella (Zeller, 1839), Ecebalia obscenella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1855)) were recorded for the fist time from Volga Region, 50 — for the first time from Chuvashia.

Additions to the list of moths (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae, Thyatiridae, Epiplemidae, Lasiocampidae, Lemoniidae, Sphingidae, Notodontidae, Lymantriidae, Arctiidae, Syntomidae) of Ryazan Рrovince.


SUMMARY. Presented addition to the fauna of Macroheterocera of the Ryazan Рrovince, including 23 species, of which 12 are given for the рrovince for the first time, as for the others, the most rare and interesting species provides additional information. Lacydes spectabilis (Tauscher, 1806) for the first time given for the Centre of European Russia.

About the concept of “synanthropy” on the example of Diptera.


SUMMARY.The meaning of the “synanthropy” concept is analyzed. The definition of synanthropic community as independent and isolated from natural communities is criticized. The examples of the development of so-called synanthropic species in nature are discussed. The dependence of synanthropic communities on faunistic composition of Diptera in nature is emphasized.
