A new species of the genus Lethrus Scopoli, 1777 (subgenus Scelolethrus Semenov, 1892) from Iran (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Geotrupinae).

SUMMARY. Lethrus (Scelolethrus) percutens, sp. n. described from North Iran (Golestan prov.) is most similar to Lethrus sulcatus Kraatz, 1883 distributed in Turkmenistan (northern Kopet-Dagh slopes in Ashgabat environs), but differs by many male characters; the most important differences are: shape of mandible ventral processes, ventral construction of head capsule, armature of anterior and posterior femora, structures of internal sack of aedeagus, as well as sculpture of dorsal body-side.

Lemonia strigata Rougeot et Viette, 1978, stat. n. and L. ballioni (Christoph, 1888) (Lepidoptera: Lemoniidae) in a fauna of Europe with taxonomic notes on related species and description of a new subspecies.

SUMMARY. A taxonomy of taraxaci and ballioni species groups is considered. The taxa taraxaci strigata and ballioni ponticus, both formerly of subspecific rank, are raised here to full specific status (Lemonia strigata Rougeot et Viette, 1978, stat. n. and Lemonia ponticus Aurivillius, 1894, stat. n.) because of appearance and genitalic features. Originally, the name Lemonia taraxaci ab. ♀ strigata Rebel, 1910, is infrasubspecific and as the name of specific level should perhaps attributed to [Rougeot, Viette, 1978], who made it available and used it to designate a subspecies L. taraxaci strigata. A new subspecies, Lemonia strigata deucalion, ssp. n. (locus typicus: Griechenland, vic. Igoumenitsa, Phasconula) is described. Range limits and zone of sympatry between taraxaci and strigata are shortly discussed. Two taxa — Lemonia ponticus Aurivillius, 1894 and L. beirutica Daniel, 1965 — are closed together based on external and genitalic features. Most probably, they are conspecific and should be considered subspecies of the same species and all differences between both can be explained by geographic range. The lectotypes of Crateronyx ballioni Christoph, 1888, from Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg), and of Lemonia taraxaci terranea Rothschild, 1909 from The Natural History Museum (London, Great Britain), are here designated.

Taxonomic notes upon the genus Euphydryas Scudder, 1872 (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae).

SUMMARY. Lectotypes are designated for 5 nominal species-group taxa in the genus Euphydryas Scudder. 1872: E. aurinia sareptana (Staudinger, 1871), E. aurinia pellucida (Christoph, 1893), E. aurinia laeta (Christoph, 1893), E. sibirica (Staudinger, 1861) and E. orientalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1845). Species rank of E. orientalis (range: Turkey: Central Anatolia) and E. laeta (mountain regions in the south of Western and Central Siberia, South-West Jakutia and high-montane Byryatia) and E. sibirica (lower montane Buryatia and Chita province) is confirmed. After study of the designated lectotypes, as well as other collection material, the following synonymy is established: E. aurinia aurinia (Rottemburg, 1775) = E. a. balcanica Schawerda, 1908; E. laeta laeta (Christoph, 1893), stat. rev. = Е. banghaasi (Seitz, 1908), syn.n., = Е. aurinia altivolans Tuzov, 2000. Subspecific rank of E. a. sareptana and E. a. pellucida is confirmed.
